NAPERVILLE - For the third time this season and back-to-back weeks,
Clare Rettler of the Carthage softball team has been named Hitter of the Week for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), the conference announced Monday.
Rettler, a junior from Appleton, Wis., led the Firebirds in hits with 19 over 24 plate appearances (.792). Rettler helped the Firebirds secure sweeps over North Central and Elmhurst last week by recording eight runs, five RBIs, and eight stolen bases.
Additionally, Rettler's hit streak concluded this past week. Rettler collected 12 consecutive hits beginning with a five-for-five day against Augustana on April 5, another five-for-five performance in game one against North Central (April 8), and started game two going two-for-two against the Cardinals. With Rettler's hitting performance, Rettler is tied for fifth all-time at the NCAA DIII level for consecutive hits. Rettler is tied with Hannah Rittler (UW-Oshkosh) who had 12 consecutive hits for the Titans in 2014.
The Firebirds return to action at home, facing the Carroll Pioneers on Wednesday, April 16 at 3 p.m. For more information, visit our
