Wis-Whitewater 6, Carthage 1
WHITEWATER – The Carthage women's tennis team traveled to Whitewater to take on the Wis-Whitewater Warhawks on Sunday evening. It was a tough outing for the Firebirds, who came up short in doubles play before falling to the Warhawks in singles play.

 

In doubles play, Giovanna Mendes and Greta Peterson fell to Ava Andrae and Alexandra Repplier 6-2 in #3 doubles. Niki Manojlovic and Sasha Manojlovic dropped a 7-5 match in #1 doubles to Gracie Ha and Abigail Weaver. Maddie Kearney and Xingchen Liu earned a 7-5 win over Molly Asfeld and Crystina Lee in #2 doubles. The Warhawks earned the doubles team point after taking two of the three matches.

In singles play, S. Manojlovic fell to Weaver 6-0, 6-1 in #2 singles, building the Whitewater lead to 2-0. Mendes fell to Sarah Ferguson with a pair of 6-2 losses in #4 singles, while N. Manojlovic lost a 6-3, 6-2 match in #6 singles to Priyanka Bhogaraju to secure the team victory for the Warhawks with a 4-0 lead over the Firebirds. Kearney scored the lone point for the Firebirds with a 3-6, 6-3, (10-5) victory over Lee in #5 singles. Liu dropped the #1 singles match with a 6-4, 6-1 score against Ha.


 
The Firebirds (9-8) return to action on Tuesday, April 15 as Carthage travels to Mequon, Wis. to take on Concordia (Wis.) at 3 p.m., which was rescheduled from Wednesday, April 9.
