INDIANAPOLIS - Three members of the Carthage women's track and field team have been selected to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships, the NCAA announced Sunday.


Abbey Calhoun, a senior from Grayslake, Ill., will compete in the triple jump. This will be Calhoun's first appearance at the National Championships. Calhoun enters the national stage after winning the triple jump at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships. Additionally, Calhoun has broken the Carthage school record in this event three times this year and broke the CCIW conference championship and open record in the triple jump with her mark of 12.10 meters at the conference meet. The mark of 12.10 meters ranks eighth in the NCAA Division III heading into championship weekend. 


Madison Payne, a junior from Mount Prospect, Ill., will compete in the shot put. This will be Payne's first appearance at the National Championships. Payne enters the national stage after taking third in the shot put at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships. Additionally, Payne won the shot at the Midwest ELITE Invitational with a mark of 14.08 meters back in February. That mark ranks sixth in the NCAA Division III heading into championship weekend.


Nicole Tarpley, a graduate student from Bloomingdale, Ill., will compete in the weight throw. This will be Tarpley's third appearance at the National Championships. Last year at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, Tarpley placed 17th in the weight throw. Tarpley enters the national stage after winning the weight throw at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships. Additionally, Tarpley improved to 18.20 meters this past weekend at the Carthage Firebird Finale. The personal record of .15 meters ranks Tarpley tenth in the NCAA Division III heading into championship weekend. 



"We are excited for Nicole , Madison and Abbey to compete amongst the best at the NCAA championship in Rochester, NY," said Coach Stephanie Domin. "This is a huge accomplishment and each of them have worked hard to get to this point. They have high and attainable goals for the weekend and we are looking forward to an exciting experience."



The Firebirds will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Rochester, New York. Tarpley will compete in the weight throw Friday, March 14 at 3:30 PM EST. Calhoun and Payne will compete on Saturday, March 15. Calhoun will compete in the triple jump at 11:00 AM EST. Payne will compete in the shot put at 2:30 PM EST.
