Cayuela Claims CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE - Cyriac Cayuela of the Carthage men's tennis team has been named the Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), the conference announced Wednesday.

Cayuela, a sophomore from Villeuneuve d Ascq, France, shined in the Firebirds two victories over MSOE and DePauw over the past week. Against MSOE, Cayuela teamed up with teammate Finn Morris to earn a #3 doubles win with a score of 6-3 over Pedro Mendes and Augusto Yamakazi. Cayuela then earned a 6-1, 6-2 win in #6 singles over Yamakazi.

Against DePauw, Cayuela and Morris earned another #3 doubles victory, defeating Teagen Crow and Roee Sela 6-4. CAyuela then earned a #5 singles win over Diego Marquez Calderon, defeating his opponent 6-4, 1-6, (6-4).

The Firebirds (4-3) will return to the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wis. on Saturday, Mar. 1 to host Hope at 8:45 a.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
