MILWAUKEE — The Carthage College men's wrestling team turned in a competitive outing at the MSOE Invite on Saturday, December six, highlighted by a runner-up finish from
CJ Gilbert at 174 pounds.
Gilbert advanced to the championship match after a strong run through the bracket. He opened his day with a technical fall in the first round, followed by a pin in the second. He continued his momentum with a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals before securing another technical fall in the semifinals. Gilbert battled in the title match but came up just short in a 5-3 decision, earning second place.
At 184 pounds,
Jared Werner delivered a solid fifth-place finish. Werner recorded pins in each of his first two bouts before falling in the semifinals. After a narrow decision loss in the placement rounds, he responded with a high-scoring 22-16 decision to secure fifth.
At 197 pounds,
Elvis Muja advanced through the opening two rounds with byes. He dropped his third-round match by pin before bouncing back with a pin in his next bout. Muja closed his day with consecutive losses by fall, placing sixth overall.
Carthage will wrestle at the 61st annual North Central (Ill.) Invite which takes place Saturday, December 13 starting at 9 a.m.
