Kish Headlines Carthage Effort at NCAA Division III Regional

EAU CLAIRE — The Carthage men's wrestling team competed at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships Region VII tournament, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds from Chris Kish.

Kish (22-9) scored 17.5 team points en route to a top-four showing. He opened the championship bracket with a fall in 3:47 over JP Culver of Wisconsin-Oshkosh before advancing by injury default in the quarterfinals against Luca Paladino of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

In the semifinals, Kish dropped a 12-5 decision to Izzy Balsiger of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He responded with a fall in 6:33 over Thomas Holmquist of Saint John's in the consolation semifinals to secure a spot in the third-place match. Kish concluded his tournament with a 4-2 decision setback against Keno Vanier of Augsburg.

At 141 pounds, Edgar Albino (20-9) placed fifth and added 12.5 team points. Albino recorded a 16-1 technical fall over Dallas Sibbet of Saint John's and a fall in 3:28 against Jacob Hillshafer of Lakeland to reach the semifinals. After a 12-5 decision loss to Marcus McIntyre of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a 7-2 setback in the consolation semifinals, Albino rebounded with an 8-3 decision over Jack Major of Concordia (Wis.) in the fifth-place match.

Zaren Anderson (32-8) earned seventh place at 157 pounds, totaling 10.5 team points. He secured falls in 4:13 over Dillon Raab of Lakeland and in 5:42 against Ben Messier of Milwaukee School of Engineering during the seventh-place bout. Anderson also added a 12-3 major decision against Gianni Panozzo of Augustana in the consolation bracket.

At 174 pounds, Maxwell Schmitt (12-20) placed eighth with 5 team points. Schmitt recorded a 12-3 major decision over Kyle Rasper of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a 16-14 decision against Trey Dieringer of Linfield University to advance through the consolation rounds.

CJ Gilbert (32-12) picked up a consolation victory at 165 pounds, earning a 2-1 decision over Blake Delsman of Wisconsin-Platteville. Gilbert finished with 0.5 team points.

Also competing for the Firebirds were Evan Glowinski (133), Kayden Serrano (149), London Kiser (184), Elvis Muja (197), and Christian Gielow (285).
