Anderson, Gilbert and Kiser Lead Carthage at CUW Invite

MEQUON — The Carthage College wrestling team continued its early-season development at the CUW Invite on Saturday, competing across every weight class and highlighted by strong performances from Zaren Anderson, CJ Gilbert and London Kiser.

Anderson led the Firebirds with a standout day at 157 pounds, going 5-1 and winning the consolation bracket to earn the consolation championship. Gilbert also delivered a solid effort at 174 pounds, advancing deep into the bracket and finishing as the consolation runner-up with a 4-2 record. Kiser added three victories at 184 pounds and reached the blood round before a medical forfeit ended his day.

Luca Burgio (125) and Tre McClose (125) each gained valuable experience as Evan Glowinski (133) and the 141-pound duo of Makoa Kong and CJ Goy also battled through competitive early-round matchups. Also in the blood rounds, Edgar Albino went 3-2 on the day.

At 149 pounds, Kayden Serrano and Elijah Zepeda both earned important mat time while navigating deep brackets, while Maxwell Schmitt competed at 165 pounds in his collegiate debut. Anthony Berry wrestled at 174 alongside Gilbert, contributing additional depth in the middle weights.

Carthage's upper weights saw continued development from Sean Gielarowski (197) and Jared Werner (197), who each worked through challenging draws. In the heavyweight group, Christian Gielow and Cooper Vincent both wrestled multiple bouts and closed out the Firebirds' presence in the lineup.

Carthage returns to dual meet action taking on Elmhurst on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m.
