Carthage 7, Millikin 0
Decatur, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team traveled to Illinois on Friday for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual against the Millikin Big Blue. It was a strong outing for the Firebirds, as the team picked up their first win on the road this season and shut out the Big Blue.

 

In doubles play, Xingchen Liu and Niki Manojlovic cruised to a 6-0 victory over Kristen Armstrong and Isabella Griffiths in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson defeated Sarah Parsons and Addison Ross 6-1 to claim the team point for Carthage. Jordan Miller and Bella Rizzo won by forfeit in No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Manojlovic earned a shutout win over Ross with a pair of 6-0 victories in No. 3 singles. Liu defeated Griffiths in No. 1 singles, also earning a pair of 6-0 victories. Arreazola earned the win in No. 2 singles, defeating Armstrong 6-0, 6-1 to secure the team win for the Firebirds. Rizzo used a 6-2, 6-4 performance to defeat Parsons in No. 5 singles. Miller battled for a win in No. 4 singles, defeating Tessa Koehler 7-5, 6-3. Valentina Huesca won by forfeit in No. 6 singles. 

The Firebirds defeated the Big Blue 7-0.


 
The Firebirds (3-2) return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as the squad travels to Bloomington, Ill. to face off against Illinois Wesleyan at 10 a.m. Carthage women's tennis returns to Smeds Tennis Center on Oct. 11 as the team hosts Augustana (Ill.)  For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
