Firebirds Battle Hard but Fall to Augustana (Ill.) in Dual Meet

KENOSHA — The Carthage College men's wrestling team fell to Augustana (Ill.) during the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Duals on Saturday at home.

Competing at 125 pounds, Chris Kish put Carthage College on the board first with a 16-9 decision over Jack Reina of Augustana (Ill.).
In the 133-pound matchup, Sam Deyro of Augustana (Ill.) responded with a fall over Zach Miller at 5:33, giving the Vikings the lead.
At 141 pounds, Cole Nelson reclaimed momentum for the Firebirds with an impressive 20-4 technical fall against Will Taylor.
Kameron Hanel of Augustana (Ill.) answered back in the 149-pound bout with a 13-0 major decision over Elijah Zepeda, regaining the lead for the Vikings.
In the 157-pound contest, Michael Macias extended Augustana's advantage with an 8-1 decision over Zaren Anderson.
CJ Gilbert delivered a dominant performance at 165 pounds, securing a 17-1 technical fall against Jack Patting to bring Carthage College back into contention.
At 174 pounds, Jack Miller of Augustana (Ill.) edged Collin Ruiz in a closely contested 10-6 decision, adding to the Vikings' lead.
Devin Rogers responded at 184 pounds with a 10-3 decision over Vinny Querciagrossa, earning valuable points for the Firebirds.
In the 197-pound matchup, Jacob Badger of Augustana (Ill.) notched a 15-0 technical fall over Diego Fuentes, extending the Vikings' lead.
Josh Woodrey closed out the dual at heavyweight with a 4-1 decision over Mason Kochersperger, securing the victory for Augustana (Ill.).

The Firebirds will return to action on Sunday, February 2.
