Men's Tennis Enters Season at No. 30 in ITA National Rankings

GILBERT - The Carthage men's tennis team will start the 2025 spring season nationally ranked, as the Firebirds were ranked no. 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Preseason Rankings. The ITA released the rankings on Wednesday afternoon.

The Firebirds enter the season following a 23-5 season in 2023-24 which featured the team finishing as runner-up in the CCIW tournament last May. Carthage is the one of two ranked teams representing the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), as North Central enters the season ranked 35th in the country. The Firebirds will face off against North Central on March 29 in Racine Wis. The squad will also meet up with ranked teams throughout the season including no. 1 Chicago,no. 4 Case Western Reserve, no. 17 Wis-Whitewater, no. 20 Kenyon.

Several familiar faces return to the court this season for the Firebirds including Elios Briand, Cyriac Cayuela, Cooper Ferruzzi, Myles Krzewinski, Luka Okino, Victor Pimenta, Diego Silva, Francisco Silveira, and Miles Whelan. Freshmen Finn Morris and Aiden Friedman are names to watch after an impressive fall season with Morris finishing with a 4-1 record and Friedman finishing the fall at 3-0. As a team in the fall season, the Firebirds went 34-15 (.694) in singles play and 17-12 (.586) in doubles play.

The Firebirds return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as the team heads to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on Coe College at 9 a.m. and Wis-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. Carthage men's tennis returns home on Feb. 8 against Carleton. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
