Men's Tennis Concludes Fall Schedule at ITA Tournament

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Carthage men's tennis team concluded the fall portion of the 2025-26 schedule at the ITA Regional Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College.

MAIN DRAW SINGLES

Francisco Silveira received a bye in the opening round before defeating Bryton Short (Coe) 6-4, 4-6, (10-7) in the second round. Silveira then advanced to the fourth round with a 6-4, 4-6, (10-4) win over Quinn Monson (Gustavus Adolphus). Silveira's weekend came to an end with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Akshay Garapati (Carleton) in the fourth round.

Diego Silva received a bye to start the tournament before defeating Grant Idoux (Coe) with a pair of 6-1 victories. In the third round, Silva earned a win over Noah Hakim (Gustavus Adolphus) with a 6-4, 6-3 performance. Silva then dropped a 6-0, 6-4 match against Theo Billson (Wis-Whitewater).

Finn Morris earned a first round win, defeating Gustavo Souza Funo (Concordia Wis.) 6-2, 7-6. Morris then fell in the second round, dropping a 6-1, 6-4 match against Garvin Murray (Grinnell).

Linus Bangert fell in the opening round to Tony Schulte (Coe) 6-1, 6-0. Cyriac Cayuela dropped a first round match with a 6-4, 6-2 final against Gregor Gottein (Luther). Luca Okino fell to Joel Simon (Bethany Lutheran) 2-6, 6-1, (10-7).

B SINGLES

Victor Pimenta defeated Ryan Labelle (Carroll (Wis.)) 6-2, 6-3 in the first round and then defeated Julius Jonsson (Wis-Whitewater) 6-1, 3-6, (10-7) to advance to the third round. Pimenta then earned a 6-5, 6-3 win over Luke Hinchcliffe (Wis-La Crosse) to continue forward in the tournament. In the fourth round, Pimenta fell to Devansh Punjabi (Grinnell) 5-7, 6-1, (10-5). Punjabi went on to win the bracket.

Miles Whelan defeated Logan Sandberg (Concordia Minn.) 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round before earning a 6-2, 4-6, (10-5) win over Yihe Zhang (Carleton) in the second round. Whelan then fell 6-3, 7-6 to Caden Branum (Grinnell).

Ethan Foucheaux used a pair of 6-0 wins to defeat Isaac Hinze (Coe) in the first round. Foucheaux then defeated Owen Heidtke (Carleton) 6-7, 6-4, (10-7) before falling to Gerado Ramirez Mainou (Luther) 6-3, 6-0.

Marco Czosnyka fell to Carter Michaels (Wis-Whitewater) 6-2, 7-5 in the first round. Daniel Jaworski lost to Augusto Yamazaki (MSOE).

DOUBLES MAIN DRAW

Okino and Pimenta opened with an 8-1 win over a team from Wis-Eau Claire before defeating a team from Wis-La Crosse 8-3. In the third round, the duo defeated the No. 2 ranked duo from Wis-Whitewater 8-3 to advance to the next round. Okino and Pimenta then fell to a duo from Coe in a tight 8-6 contest.

Morris and Silva teamed up to defeat a Grinnell doubles squad 8-4 in the first round. The duo then earned an 8-2 win over Wis-Superior in the second round before falling in the third round 8-6 to a squad from Carleton.

Bangert and Silveira opened with an 8-5 win over a duo from St. Olaf before defeating a duo from Wis-Eau Claire 8-4. The Carthage duo would fall in the third round to a squad from Wis-La Crosse with an 8-5 final.

Cayuela and Foucheaux fell in the opening round to Wis-Whitewater 8-5. Czosnyka and Jaworski fell to a duo from St. Scholastica 8-3.

The Firebirds return to action on Jan. 31 as the team competes against Coe College in Iowa. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
