ELMHURST – The Carthage women's tennis team traveled to Elmhurst, Ill. to face off against the Elmhurst Bluejays in the first conference dual of the 2024-25 season. The Firebirds made quick work of the Bluejays, earning the shutout victory in commanding fashion.

 

The Firebirds opened the dual with a clean sweep of the doubles matches. Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes defeated Annasophia Stone and Chloe Webb with a 6-2 performance. Xingchen Liu and Maddie Kearney also earned a 6-2 victory over Reese Coon and Olivia Grabowski. Victoria Rizzo and Marie Weis cruised to a 6-0 shutout win over Mia Merrell and Anna Lakey. With a new rule for the 2024-25 yar, the Firebirds earned one team point for their performances in doubles play.

In singles play, Liu silenced Stone with a pair of 6-0 victories. Manojlovic also earned the 6-0, 6-0 win over Webb. Mendes earned the win over Coon with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Kearney, Greta Peterson, and Niki Manojlovic all earned 6-0, 6-0 wins to cap off the win for the Firebirds, as Kearney defeated Grabowski, Peterson defeated Merrell, and Manojlovic defeated Lakey.
