KENOSHA – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the North Central Cardinals at Smeds Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. After a strong start for the Firebirds, the Cardinals rallied in singles play to earn the win.

 

In doubles play, Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes fell to Kensington Payne and Abigail Penados 6-1. Xingchen Liu and Maddie Kearney earned a 6-3 victory over Anastasia Bozovic and Priya Harris. Niki Manojlovic and Greta Peterson defeated Ainara Casado Cedillo and Kayla McSweeney with a 7-5 victory. With a new rule for the 2024-25 year, the Firebirds earned one team point for their performances in doubles play.

In singles play, Liu dropped a 7-5, 6-0 loss to Penados. S. Manojlovic fell to Payne 6-2, 6-1. Mendes dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match to Harris. Kearney suffered a 6-4, 7-5 defeat to Kate Herlihy. Peterson claimed a win over Casado Cedillo with a 6-4, 3-6 (1-0) performance. N. Manojlovic fell 6-3, 6-1 to Liveta Ezerskis.


 
Carthage women's tennis (1-1) returns to Smeds Tennis Center on Sept. 13 as the Firebirds host Wheaton (Ill.) at 4 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
