BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team competed against the top-seeded North Central Cardinals in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, who were shut out by the Cardinals and eliminated for the conference tournament.

 

In doubles play, Xingchen Liu and Giovanna Mendes fell to Natalie Bassett and Abigail Penados 8-1. Sasha Manojlovic and Marie Weis were defeated by Kate Herlihy and Kensington Payne 8-2. Beatriz Ferreira and Maddie Kearney lost to Mikayla Edquiban and Kayla McSweeney 8-2.

In singles play, Weis fell to Bassett with a pair of 6-1 defeats. Manojlovic was defeated by Payne 6-2, 6-3.
