#4 Carthage 5, #5 Augustana 3
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team competed against the Augustana Vikings in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament. It was a fierce competition in both singles and doubles play, but the Firebirds prevailed with a victory to send them into the second round of the tournament.

 

In doubles play, Xingchen Liu and Giovanna Mendes fell to Hannah Colbert and Caitlyn Hanulikova 8-5. Sasha Manojlovic and Marie Weis earned an 8-5 victory over Maitreyl Shrikhande and Anna-Marie Huebel. Beatriz Ferreira and Maddie Kearney defeated Natasha Gauerke and Mia Reese 8-3 to give Carthage a 2-1 lead.

In singles play, Liu fell to Hanulikova 6-3, 6-0. Weis fell to Huebel 6-2, 6-1. Mendes earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Gauerke. Kearney bested Shrikhande with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win. Ferreira defeated Maddy Harned 7-5, 6-2.
