ORLANDO, Fla. – The Carthage women's tennis team concluded their spring break trip to Florida with a match against the Calvin Knights. After a tough battle, the Knights came away with a 7-2 victory over the Firebirds.

 

In doubles play, Xingchen Liu and Giovanna Mendes dropped an 8-7 (8-6) battle with Marina Ribeiro and Julia Hooker. Marie Weis and Sasha Manojlovic fell to Rachel Grissom and Catherine Grissom 8-7 (7-1). Maddie Kearney and Beatriz Ferreira fell to Elise Norman and Tessa Holman 8-4.

In singles play, Liu defeated Holman 6-2, 6-0. Weis bested Ribeiro 1-6, 6-4, (10-8). Manojlovic fell to C. Grissom 6-3, 6-3. Mendes fell to Maggie Schoemaker 6-1, 6-0. Kearney was defeated by Averi Lewis 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Victoria Rizzo fell to Delanie Minnema 6-0, 6-0.


 
The Firebirds (8-6) will return on March 17 to take on Concordia (Wis.) in Racine, Wis. at 12 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
