Carthage Baseball Team Ready to Roll After 4-0 Start in Arizona

TUSCON, Ariz.  — The Carthage College baseball team is set to resume action on Friday, March 8, following an impressive start to their trip. 

The Basics
Game One
  • Final score: Carthage 5 - Jamestown 4

How it Happened 
 
  • Carthage faced an early 0-1 deficit in the first contest in Arizona after Jamestown's first-inning run. 
  • The Firebirds made a comeback in the third, securing a 2-1 lead with doubles from Kody Krekling and Matt Felber
  • The sixth inning saw a tie at 2-2, broken by Oren Hill's RBI single and a subsequent RBI single from Drew Knecht, expanding the Firebirds' lead to 4-2. 
  • Jamestown managed to level the score in the ninth, but Zander Tubbs sealed the victory with a walk-off RBI double, concluding the game at 5-4.
 
  • In the second game against St. Olaf, P.J. Moser launched a two-run homer, contributing to a 2-0 lead. 
  • Tubbs added another two-run homer, extending the score to 4-0. 
  • Carthage dominated with three runs in the third, featuring an RBI double from Felber and an RBI triple from Max Cairo
  • Despite St. Olaf scoring two runs in the third, the Firebirds widened the gap with seven runs in the fifth inning. St. Olaf managed to add runs in the seventh, but Carthage secured a convincing 16-5 victory.
 
  • Facing Waldorf, early runs from Felber and Moser put Carthage ahead 2-0. However, Waldorf took control in the third inning, scoring four runs. 
  • Carthage responded, tying the game at four with an RBI double from Cairo. 
  • After Waldorf regained the lead, a solo homer from AJ Gaca in the sixth leveled the score at 5-5. 
  • The game concluded with a walk-off RBI double from Tubbs, securing a narrow 6-5 victory for Carthage.
 
  • In the Wednesday matchup, Carthage initiated scoring with single runs in the first and third innings courtesy of Felber and Moser. 
  • Concordia (Wis.) mounted a comeback in the fourth, securing a 5-2 lead. 
  • Evan Devine's RBI single narrowed the gap, but the Falcons responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. 
  • Concordia (Wis.) added more runs in the sixth, establishing a 9-3 lead. 
  • Carthage retaliated, scoring a lone run in the seventh and four in the eighth. 
  • A bases-loaded walk leveled the score at 9-9, and Krekling's three-run triple propelled Carthage to a 12-9 advantage. 
  • A sac fly from Moser extended the lead to 13-9. 
  • Although the Falcons added a run in the ninth, Carthage secured the victory with a groundout, concluding the game at 13-10.
