Grinnell 5, Carthage 4
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carthage men's tennis team opened the weekend with a match against the Grinnell Pioneers at Augustana College. After a tightly contested competition, the Firebirds came just shy of a victory, falling to the Pioneers 5-4.

 

In doubles play, Elios Briand and Myles Krzewinski fell to Aiden Klass and Lucas Willett 8-6. Francisco Silveira and Cooper Ferruzzi defeated Henry Bridgers and Sam Rudenberg 8-6. Diego Silva and Luca Okino fell to Wilder Cooke and Leo Esztergomi 8-7. The Pioneers led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play.

In singles play, Silveira earned a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Cooke. Krzewinski fell to Willett 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Briand defeated Esztergomi 6-1, 6-2. Ferruzzi fell to Rudenberg 6-2, 6-2. Pimenta came up short against Klass, falling 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), (6-1). Okino defeatedJacob Young 6-2, 6-4.
