White Named Outstanding Performer Following NCAA Championships

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Joseph White has been named a Most Outstanding Performer of the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Wednesday.

White, a senior from Kenosha, Wis., is coming off of his fourth national title win after claiming the Division III national title in weight throw on Friday, March 8 in Virginia Beach, Va. White claimed victory with a mark of 21.64m, which was the second farthest throw in NCAA Division III Championship meet history and the eighth farthest throw in Division III history.

White also finished runner-up in shot put with a mark of 18.40m and earned All-American honors in both events.

"Joseph had another phenomenal indoor national meet," said Assistant Coach Greg Raimondi. "He closes out his indoor career as a Firebird adding two more All-American honors to his name for a total of 8. 4 of those coming at indoor meets with 3 of them being National Titles.  Being able to defend his weight throw national title in one of the best competitions ever was awesome to see.  He came back the next day and competed super well in the shot. He led the entire way and nearly missed claiming another national title, finishing as the national runner up. It's hard to express how proud I am of his accomplishments but I'll let the numbers speak for themselves: 38 Indoor NCAA Points, 4 All-Americans honors / 3 National Titles, NCAA D3 Weight Throw record holder, and NCAA D3 5th All Time Shot Put."

"Many people on the outside looking in would come to expect this outcome," said Head Coach Josh Henry. "but I think that outlook glosses over how impressive of a feat it truly is to be as dominant as Joseph has been for the last two years in the weight throw. Getting to the top is hard, staying there is a whole new level of difficult. This accomplishment just speaks to how hard Joseph has worked and how consistent he is day in and day out. Truly impressive and I'm so unbelievably proud of him."

The Firebirds return to action on March 29 at the First Chance Invitational at North Central College. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
