Anderson Breaks School Record as Firebirds Claim Victory at Metzger Invite and Multi

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage men's track & field team hosted the Tadd Metzger Invitational at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on Friday and Saturday. It was another strong day for the Firebirds, who came away with another school record performance and another team victory.

Who Led the Way

Micah Anderson won the 1,000m with a school record-breaking time of 2:30.65. Michael Herres placed second in 2:38.49.

Ethan Walker brought home the victory in the 3,000m with a time of 8:46.66. Trevor Swanson placed fourth at 8:53.36. Luke Davey took fifth place in 9:07.05, with Jacob Curulewski finishing in sixth place with a time of 9:12.41. Braydon Barth closed out the scoring Firebirds in eighth place at 9:15.91. Carthage totaled 23 points in the event.

Chase Upmann continued his strong season with a win in the mile, running 4:15.08 in his first attempt of the season.

Kedrick Johnson III won the triple jump with a mark of 13.23m. Collin Moran placed fifth with a personal best mark of 12.20m.

Joseph White cruised to victory in the shot put with a throw of 18.15m. Lucas Leal placed fourth at 14.14m. Tyler Rose placed seventh. The three athletes combined for 17 points in the event.

White went on to win the weight throw with a mark of 21.52m. Leal placed third at 16.71m. Jacob Brost placed fourth at 15.72m. Jordan Hughes placed sixth, with Renz Lies taking eighth to cap off a 25 point event for Carthage.

The 4x400m relay team, which featured Herres, Anderson, Michael Barber, and Upmann, came away with a close win over the Wheaton Thunder with a combined time of 3:30.74.

Adam Kedzior placed second in the heptathlon with 4,518 points. His top scoring mark came in the 55m dash, where he scored 833 points.

Barber placed second in the 600m with a time of 1:25.35. Bo Anderson placed seventh, with Gabe Johnson just behind in eighth place. The trio tallied 11 points for the Firebirds

Jaylan Nelson placed third in the 55m dash with a personal best performance of 6.64 seconds. Chance Hunter placed seventh in 6.77 seconds.

Aidan O'Neill placed third in pole vault, clearing 3.50m.

Alek Zavadoski placed fourth in the 400m, finishing in 53.15 seconds. 

Ben Jensen placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 6.24m.

Coach's Remarks

"Another very strong day for the program!" exclaimed Head Coach Josh Henry. "I've been so impressed to see how many guys have stepped up for us at various points throughout the season so far.  Today Micah [Anderson] stole the show, breaking the school record in the 1,000m run.  Also stepping up and having historically strong performances were Adam [Kedzior] in the heptathlon (3rd best mark in school history), Chase [Upmann] in the mile (4th best mark in school history), and Michael [Herres] in the 1,000m (10th best mark in school history).  Overall, a great day to be a FIrebird!"

Men's Track & Field is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 as the team heads to UW-Whitewater for the Midwest Elite Invitational.
