Men’s Wrestling Travels for First Dual Meet of the Season

NAPERVILLE - In a dual meet, the Carthage College men's wrestling team had their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) contest against North Central (Ill.). The Cardinals took the victory 44-3.

The match began with a setback at 125 pounds, where a forfeit put Carthage six points behind. At 133 pounds, Carter Leiber stepped up but was pinned by his opponent just over a minute into the match. Cole Nelson brought energy to the 141-pound bout, battling to the wire but falling narrowly in a 10-8 decision, giving North Central three more points.

In the 149-pound class, Elijah Zepeda fought hard against North Central's Dylan Burnoski, ultimately coming up short with a 6-3 decision. The highlight of the night came at 157 pounds, where Zaren Anderson secured a 4-2 decision over the Cardinal's Luke Christie.

CJ Gilbert displayed tenacity at 165 pounds but fell to Alex Villar in a technical fall decision. At 174 pounds, Maxwell Becker went up against a tough opponent, who managed to secure a fall within the first period. In the upper weights, Carthage's Devin Rogers (184), Diego Fuentes (197), and Mason Kochersperger (285) each fought hard against skilled competitors who managed to score technical falls.

The dual concluded with several exhibition matches, including 197-pounder Elvis Muja's battle against Jon Kratz, where Muja ultimately fell in a close 8-1 decision.

The Firebirds head to the Muskie Scramble which is set to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 9.
