Carthage 6, Illinois Wesleyan 1
KENOSHA – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday afternoon at Smeds Tennis Center. After winning a point in doubles play, the Firebirds cruised to victory over the Titans for the team's second consecutive win.

 

DOUBLES PLAY

Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes fell to Olivia Bell and Amber Uhrlich 6-0. Xingchen Liu and Maddie Kearney earned a 6-1 win over Gabrielle Lipske and Kate Christian. Niki Manojlovic and Greta Peterson finished off a 6-1 victory over Angela Zatloka and Katie Van Heuklon. The Firebirds ended doubles play with a 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard.

SINGLES PLAY

Liu defeated Ehrlich after a tough 2-6, 6-4, (10-5) battle. S. Manojlovic cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lipske. Mendes earned the win over Van Heuklon with a pair of 6-4 victories. Peterson fell to Bell with a pair of 6-2 defeats. Kearney earned the win over Christian with a 6-1, 6-2 performance. Marie Weis defeated Zatloka 6-0, 6-4.


 
The Firebirds (4-3) return to action on Oct. 13 in Rock Island, Ill. as the team travels to face off against the Vikings of Augustana College. Xingchen Liu will also represent the Firebirds at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. beginning on Oct. 10. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
