KENOSHA – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the Millikin Big Blue on Friday afternoon at Smeds Tennis Center to kick off homecoming weekend for the Firebirds. It was a strong outing for the Firebirds, who cruised to their third shutout victory of the season.

 

DOUBLES PLAY

Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes earned a 6-2 victory over Emily Markus and Cristina Borunda. Niki Manojlovic and Greta Peterson defeated Kaitlyn Mullins and Addison Ross 6-2. Larissa Ishikawa and Victoria Rizzo won by forfeit. After sweeping the doubles matches, the Firebirds took a 1-0 lead over the Big Blue.

SINGLES PLAY

Xingchen Liu cruised past Markus with a pair of 6-3 victories, earning her 11 singles victory of the season. S. Manojlovic defeated Borunda, 4-6, 6-3, (10-4). Maddie Kearney earned the win over Mullins with a pair of 6-0 performances. Marie Weis defeated Ross 6-1, 6-1. Ishikawa and Maddie Berglund each earned victories by forfeit.


 
The Firebirds (3-3) look to sweep the weekend home series on Saturday at noon as Carthage hosts Illinois Wesleyan at Smeds Tennis Center. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
