Carthage 7, Augustana 0
ROCK ISLAND – The Carthage women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of the 2024-25 season with a match against the Augustana (Ill.) Vikings on Sunday afternoon. It was another strong performance for the Firebirds, who came away with their fourth shutout victory of the season in the fall finale.

 

DOUBLES PLAY

Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes fell to Hannah Colbert and Colleen Larry 6-3. Xingchen Liu and Maddie Kearney defeated Maitreyi Shrikhande and Natasha Gauerke with a 6-3 victory. Niki Manojlovic and Greta Peterson defeated Hattie Timerman and Maddy Harned 7-5. The Firebirds took two of the three matches in doubles, earning a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

SINGLES PLAY

Liu, in her fourth match in as many days, earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Colbert. S. Manojlovic defeated Larry 4-6, 6-3, (10-3). Mendes earned the win over Shrikhande with a 6-2, 7-5 performance. Peterson earned a hard fought win, defeating Harned 4-6, 6-4, (12-10). Kearney defeated Timerman 6-2, 6-0, while Marie Weis won a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), (10-6) battle with Mikayla Kelly.


 
The Firebirds (5-3) will return to the tennis court in March when Carthage hosts Hope College at the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wis. on Mar. 3. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
