Mattox, Schoeneman to Represent Women's Track & Field at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After a nearly two-month long outdoor season has ended for most of the Carthage women's track & field team, the journey will continue for a pair of accomplished Firebirds. Senior Alexis Mattox and junior Aubrey Schoeneman have earned bids to the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and will join junior Joseph White from the men's side in the state of New York later this week.

Mattox, a Kenosha native, will compete on the national stage for the second-consecutive season. The experienced thrower also earned a trip to the outdoor championships in 2022, competing in the hammer throw. A participant in the 2022 indoor championships as well, Mattox has punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships on three separate occasions. Her qualifying mark of 52.70m this season came in mid May at North Central College's Gregory Invitational, and is the 21st-farthest toss in the country this season.

Schoeneman, Carthage's lone representative at this year's indoor championships on the women's side, will compete in two different events in Rochester. The junior from Mercer, Wisconsin, will take part in both the shot put and discus throw. Aubrey hit an even 14.00 meters at the Wheaton Invitational to punch her ticket to nationals in the shot put; the mark is the 13th-farthest in the nation. The Mercer native narrowly missed out on All-American honors at the indoor championships, finishing ninth in the shot put after recording a personal best in the event. Schoeneman's mark of 44.67m in discus earned her all-region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, and is the fifth-best mark in the North Region.

Schoeneman will compete first for the Firebirds, with the discus set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 25. The junior will compete in the shot put the following day at 4:00 p.m. ET, while Mattox will take to the circle for the hammer throw on Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The two will try to become the program's first outdoor All-Americans since Sarah Schmidt (shot put & hammer throw) and Elizabeth Willis (shot put) took home the honors during the 2019 season.
