ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - In the team's final meet before next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, a contingent of Firebirds participated in the Augustana Twilight in Illinois.
Katelyn Smith continued her torrent pace through the final stretch of the season, shattering the program record in the 5,000-meter. Smith broke the previous record by nearly ten seconds, completing the race in just 17:41.90. The time is one of the top 100 in the nation.Â
Aubrey Schoeneman took first in the shot put this evening, throwing 13.92m. Schoeneman's top mark this season is 14.00m, which positions her at 13th in the event nationally, earning her qualification to the NCAA Championships in the shot put. Schoeneman will also participate in the discus in Rochester, as her mark of 44.67m from mid-April positions her at 17th nationally.Â
Alexis Mattox will also represent the Firebirds in New York, as the senior will compete in the hammer throw. Mattox took fourth in the event tonight, but her mark of 52.70m set last week in Naperville is the 21st-best in the country.
