Scanlon Fans Seven; Hill Blasts Two Triples as Firebirds Pickup Regular Season Series Sweep over Wheaton

CARL STREAM, Ill.  — In Friday's single game against Wheaton (Ill.), the Carthage College baseball team picked up the regular season series sweep over the Thunder 10-5. 

The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 10 - Wheaton (Ill.) 5
  • Location: Carol Stream, Illinois - Lee Pfund Stadium  
  • Records: Carthage 8-23 (3-12 CCIW), Wheaton (Ill.) 14-19 (6-9 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • After the Thunder took a 3-0 lead into the fifth, Carthage got on the board with an RBI triple for Oren Hill
  • Hill slugged another triple in the seventh, scoring Mike Ciesla and Jake Fulton, tying it at three. 
  • A throwing error scored Hill, and an RBI single from Kody Krekling made it 5-3. 
  • In the eighth, a bases-loaded walk moved the Firebirds ahead by three. 
  • A fielding error allowed Ciesla to cross home plate while a wild pitch scored Fulton. 
  • A two-RBI single from Matt Felber extended the advantage to 10-3. 
  • Though Wheaton (Ill.) plated two in the bottom half of the eighth, Jake Hartman Jr. struck out the final batter for the win 10-5. 

High Flyers
  • Oren Hill went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in, two triples, and one walk. 
  • Joe Zuleger and Mike Ciesla had two hits in the game, while Matt Felber drove in two runs. 
  • Left-handed pitcher Ryan Scanlon struck out a season-best seven batters over 6.0 innings of work for his first win of the season.

  • Carthage returns home for the first two games of their three-game home stretch.
