PLAINFIELD, Ill. - Despite coming into the 2023 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women's Tennis Tournament winners of six of its last seven dual matches, the No. 4 Carthage Firebirds women's tennis team fell 5-1 in the conference tournament quarterfinals to the No. 5 Augustana Vikings.
The Firebirds picked up a victory at the No. 2 doubles flight, as
Victoria Rizzo and
Xingchen Liu combined to take down the Vikings 8-3 - but the match was ended when Augustana's Caitlyn Hanulikova defeated
Luana da Silva at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for her team.
Despite the loss, the Firebirds finished the season with 11 victories in dual matches - the team's most in a single season since the 2017-2018 team won 14.
