WAUKESHA, Wis. - In its first outdoor competition of the spring, the Carthage Firebirds women's track and field team earned a number of top-10 finishes. The team placed third out of over 12 teams at the meet, while five individuals (Ky. Smith, Ka. Smith, Tarpley, Schoneman, and Calhoun) won their respective events.

"We started off the outdoor season on a high note in many event groups today," proudly remarked Carthage College head women's track and field coach

"Sprints was led by first-year student
Anna Kegel with her third-place finish in the 100m and junior
Sarah Kerfin's fourth-place finish in the 200m."
"We had two jump events tap into the Carthage all-time performance list; sophomore
Abbey Calhoun jumped 11-5.75 in the pole vault - placing her fourth all-time - while first-year jumper
Christina Hall was third in the long jump with a lifetime best jump of 17-11.75 - placing her eighth on the all-time list."
"The Smith sister duo led the distance group with lifetime best in their events. Senior
Katelyn Smith had an amazing debut in the 10k, winning the event in 38:07.50. This puts her second on the Carthage all-time list. Sophomore
Kylie Smith won the 5k in 18:22.95, placing her fourth on the all-time list."
"Our throws group was led by
Aubrey Schoeneman winning the shot put and placing third in discus.
Nicole Tarpley won the hammer in 156-8, placing her tenth on the all-time list."
"We are off to a strong start for the outdoor season but need more work in areas to reach our final goals at the end of the season."
