DECATUR, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team hit the road to take on the Millikin Big Blue in a CCIW dual on Friday. The Firebirds gave a strong performance, and came away with a road victory as a squad.

 
 
In singles competition, Giovanna Mendes defeated Kaitlyn Mullins 6-2, 6-3 to earn a point for the Firebirds. Luana da Silva earned a shutout victory over Destiny Galvan with a pair of 6-0 victories. Maddie Kearney also earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Paiton Plucinski. Victoria Rizzo earned another point for the Firebirds with a default victory. The Big Blue won two matches to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Firebirds.

In doubles play, Mendes and Rizzo defeated Mullins and Plucinski 8-1. Kearney and Beatriz Ferreira earned a victory by default. The Big Blue took the victory in the third match, but the Firebirds secured the victory with a team score of 6-3.


 
The Firebirds return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they travel to Bloomington, Ill. for another conference dual against Illinois Wesleyan University. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
