KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the Carroll Pioneers at Smeds Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. In a closely fought dual, the Firebirds came up short, falling to the Pioneers 5-4.

 
 
In singles competition, Giovanna Mendes defeated Katherine Trifilio 4-6, 7-5, (10-6) to earn a point for the Firebirds. Maddie Kearney also won her match with a 6-0, 6-3 performance against Aalaiya Jacklin. Victoria Rizzo defeated Kaitlin Brandl 6-3, 3-6, (10-7) to earn the third point of singles play for Carthage. The Pioneers would win the remaining three singles matches to even the score at 3-3. 

In doubles play, Kearney and Beatriz Ferreira defeated Jacklin and Brandl 8-1 to earn the fourth point of the day for the team. The Pioneers would win the remaining two doubles matches and claim the dual.


 
The Firebirds return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Decatur, Ill. for another conference dual against Millikin. Action is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
