RACINE, Wis. – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the Augustana (Ill.) Vikings at Life Sport Athletic Club on Saturday morning. In a tight dual, the Firebirds took control in the last three singles matches to come away with a victory.

 
 
In doubles play, Xingchen Liu and Giovanna Mendes came away with an 8-3 victory over Anna-Marie Huebel and Natasha Gauerke. Maddie Kearney and Victoria Rizzo took an 8-4 victory in their match against Maddy Harned and Mia Reese. The Vikings took one doubles match to make the score 2-1 in favor of Carthage.

In singles play, Liu took a 7-5, 6-2 win over Huebel in her return to the court. The Vikings would take the next two matches to even the score at 3-3. Mendes put the Firebirds back in front, winning a tight battle against Gauerke by a result of 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), (10-3). Kearney claimed the win with a 6-4, 6-3 performance over Jaina Burkett. Rizzo closed out the dual with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Mikayla Kelly.
