Women’s Track & Field Places Fourth at 2022 CCIW Outdoor Championships

WHEATON, Ill. — The women's track & field team placed fourth at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) 2022 Outdoor Track & Field Championship this Saturday afternoon. Freshman Grace Robinson took first in the women's 400 meter hurdles event with a new personal-best time of 1:04.28 to finish as a CCIW Champion.

Head Coach Steph Domin:

"I was very impressed and happy with the performance we had as a team today. I could not be prouder of this group of young women, we stepped up in many areas and competed hard. This is a special group, and I am looking forward to what they can do in the very near future. 
 
Grace Robinson led the track events with a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Theresa Topolski and Sarah Kerfin were 6th and 8th in the 200 meter dash and Julie Heindrichs finished 8th in the 400 meters. 
 
The field events really helped us step up to the next level. Our throwing squad came through with many points and strong performances. Abbey Calhoun had a monster day in the long jump 3rd , triple jump 3th and pole vault 6th. Teagan Johnston started clicking in the high jump for a 5th place finish and Ally LaBerge had a lifetime  PR in the javelin that placed her 6th."

Highlights:
  • Freshman Olivia Carel placed second in shot put with a distance of 13.80 meters. Carel now sits in fifth place in the Carthage record book for women's shot put.
  • Also placing high for women's shot put was freshman Aubrey Schoeneman in fourth (12.69m), Sophomore Hannah Lizano in fifth (12.50m), and freshman Alyssa Gulsvig in sixth (12.33m).
  • Sophomore Alexis Mattox took third with a distance of 52.31 meters in the hammer throw. Nicole Tarpley finished fifth (44.77m), Gabriella Yaccino sixth (41.11m), and Dora Dill seventh (40.79m).
  • Freshman Abigail Calhoun placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.21m and third in the triple jump as well with 11.06 meters covered.
  • Nicole Tarpley finished third in Discus with 40.35 meters and AUbrey Schoeneman took fourth with 39.86m.
  • Teagan Johnston cleared a height of 1.49 meters in the high jump event to finish in fifth for the Firebirds.
