Women’s Track & Field Open Day One at CCIW Championships

WHEATON, Ill. — Several athletes from Carthage women's track & field team qualified for the final round of the 2022 CCIW Championships after day one of the event kicked off Friday afternoon at McCully Stadium in Wheaton, Ill.

Head Coach Steph Domin:

"Today was all about making the finals. We had a great qualifying day led by Grace Robinson who ran to a top seed in the 400 hurdles. 

The dynamic duo Teresa Topolski and Sarah Kerfin both qualified in the 200 5th and 7th place. Lastly Julie Heinrichs squeezed into the 400 finals seeded 8th. 

We look forward to a big day from the Firebirds tomorrow as a majority of the events are on day 2 after some events were rescheduled to Saturday."

Highlights:
  • Freshman Julie Heinrichs posted 1:04.31 in the women's 400 meter dash to place eighth and qualify for finals tomorrow afternoon.
  • Grace Robinson finished first on the leaderboard of 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.76. Her personal best was in her last event at UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative on April 29th where she took first with 1:04.57.
  • Teresa Topolski and Sarah Kerfin ended in fifth and seventh respectively in the 200 meter dash. Kerfin set a new personal record with her time of 26.31.

Day two of the '22 Track & FIeld CCIW Championships will begin tomorrow morning at McCully Stadium in Wheaton, Ill.
