ELMHURST, Ill. — The Carthage men's tennis team defeated conference opponent Elmhurst University 7-2 on the road this Tuesday afternoon at Brune Tennis Courts. The Firebirds now hold an impressive 5-1 CCIW record and sit 21-2 overall for the season with just one regular-season dual match remaining.
Sophomore Myles Krzewinski and Nicolas Welker opened the match with an 8-0 win on doubles court three, followed by an 8-4 win by Andre Antreassian and Cooper Ferruzzi on court two and an 8-3 win by Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amadike on court one.
Sophomore Nick Marino and Senior Tripp Schulte opened singles by sweeping courts five and six 6-0, 6-0. Krzewinski delivered another win on court three (6-0, 6-3) before court two fell to the Bluejays. Moore captured a 6-0, 2-6, (10-4) tiebreaker on court one, and Elmhurst took the last court of the day to end the match at 7-2 Carthage.
The Firebirds host The Wheaton College Thunder this Friday, April 29th at Smeds Tennis Center for their last regular season dual match of the year before the conference tournament begins. The match Friday will be the team's Senior Day as well, where their five seniors will be recognized for their time and dedication to the program.
