ORLANDO, Fla. — The Carthage women's tennis team split a pair of dual matches this Wednesday evening against Bethel University and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The team's 8-0 sweep against the UW-Superior Yellow Jackets in their second match of the day snapped a five-game losing streak for the Firebirds.

Match 1: Carthage 0; Bethel 9

Carthage fell in their first match of the day against the Bethel University Royals 9-0. After two tough losses on courts one and two in doubles action, Rachel Anderson and Luana Da Silva battled on court three, but came up just short 8-6 against the opposing duo.

Match 2: Carthage 8; UW-Superior 0

Rachel Anderson and Luana Da Silva opened doubles play against UW-Superior 8-2 to win court three, followed by Sam Ramsey and Giana Apostoli (8-2) on court one. Giovanna Mendes and Sasha Manojlovic closed out 8-1 on court two to give Carthage the 3-0 advantage heading into singles.

Apostoli kicked off singles 6-2, 6-0 on court one, followed by Mendes 6-1, 6-0 on court three. Manojlovic won an easy 6-1, 6-2 match on court four, and Maddie Kearney took down her Yellow Jacket opponent 6-0, 6-2 on court five. The match concluded (8-0) with an even 6-1, 6-1 win by Luana Da Silva on the final court. Sierra Sonnemaker's match did not finish on court two.

The Firebird's last match of their Florida trip is this Friday at 9:00 AM ET against Transylvania University.
