ORLANDO, Fla. — The 39th nationally ranked Carthage men's tennis team rolled past both Coe College (7-2) and Stevenson University (9-0) this Monday afternoon as they opened their first two dual matches of their Orlando spring break trip. The wins today improved the Firebirds to an impressive 12-1 record on the season.
Match 1: Carthage 7; Coe 2
The Firebirds began their first match against the Coe College Kohawks, sweeping their doubles matches and finishing the match 7-2.
Nicolas Welker and Myles Krzewinski opened 8-2 on court three, before Andre Antreassian and Cooper Ferruzzi took court number two 8-6. Senior Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amodike closed the first court out 8-7 (4) to give Carthage the doubles sweep over the Kohawks.
Krzewinski grabbed the team's first win in singles on court three (6-0, 7-5), followed by Ferruzzi on court six 6-1, 3-6, (10-7). Welker claimed court five 6-4, 7-6 (6), and Amadike closed the match on court two 6-3, 6-7 (5), (13-11) to give the Firebirds the 7-2 overall advantage.
Match 2: Carthage 9; Stevenson 0
The second match of the day saw the Firebirds sweep the Stevenson University Mustangs 9-0 while not surrendering a single set for the match.
Nicolas Welker and Myles Krzewinski paired up again, this time to dominate court number two 8-0 to open up the match. Tripp Schulte and Nick Marino teamed up on court three to win 8-1, and Andre Antreassian and Cooper Ferruzzi closed out the doubles sweep 8-3 on the first court.
With good momentum going into singles action, Hayden Friese won 6-0, 6-1 over his opponent on court six. Antreassian did not give up a set on court five (6-0, 6-0), and Daniel Moore took court one 6-0, 6-1.
Schulte picked up court four 6-1, 6-0, before Ferruzzi and Marino closed out courts two and three 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. The match concluded 9-0 as the Firebirds did not drop a single set throughout the entire match.
The Firebirds now hold an impressive 12-1 record on the year, and take on both Bethel University and University of Wisconsin-Superior in duals this Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.
