Men’s Tennis Sweeps Both Spring Opener Dual Matches

RACINE, Wis. — Men's Tennis began their Spring season this Saturday afternoon, sweeping both dual matches against Lake Forest and MSOE. The Firebirds did not surrender a single court for the day, winning 9-0 in both bouts.

The team began their Lake Forest match with an 8-1 doubles win on court no. 3 courtesy of Tripp Schulte and Nicolas Welker. Cooper Ferruzzi and Andre Antreassian followed with an 8-3 win on court two, before Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amadike closed out 8-5 on the first court.

Chris Mitev opened singles 6-1, 6-2 on court no. 5, before Amadike won an easy 6-0, 6-1 match on court two. Schulte closed 6-2, 6-2 on court four, while Moore won 6-3, 4-6, (10-5) on court no. 1. Ferruzzi won an even 6-2, 6-2 on court three before Welker concluded the match on the remaining court no. 6 6-1, 6-4 to give Carthage the clean sweep over the Foresters.

The second match of the day versus MSOE began with an 8-1 win on court one from Antreassian and Ferruzzi. Mitev and Friese won 8-1 on court two, before Schulte and Welker closed out doubles action in similar fashion with an 8-1 win of their own.

Antreassian kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court five, while Friese picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six. Moore took court one 6-2, 6-1, and Mitev capitalized on the third court 6-2, 6-0. It was Marino and Amadike who closed out the match for the day, winning their sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.

The Firebirds host another double header on Saturday, February 12th as they take on Concordia (Wis.) and UW-Lacrosse at the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wis.
