Carthage Sets Numerous Personal-Bests Leading Up to CCIW Championship Meet

WAUKESHA, Wis. — In their final meet before the conference championships next weekend, the Carthage women's track and field team put up numerous big performances, and placed fifth overall in the 14-team field. The Firebirds scored 42 total points, with the team title going to UW-Eau Claire on 125 points.

Up next for the team is the CCIW Championship meet, which begins on Friday, February 25 in the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on Carthage's campus. While no spectators will be allowed, a live stream and live results page will be provided.

"The UW Oshkosh meet was a great last meet tune-up for the CCIW Championships in a week. We had an amazing day for the throwing crew with five lifetime PR's in the shot put and four lifetime PR's in the weight throw. Alexis Mattox won the weight throw with a lifetime PR of 17.41 meters. This mark is sixth on our top-10 all-time list, and ranks her ninth on the current NCAA list. Hannah Lizano was third in the weight throw with a lifetime PR of 17.14 meters. This mark is 10th on our top-10 all-time list and ranks her 11th on the current NCAA list."

"Abbey Calhoun also gained a spot on the top-10 all-time list in the triple jump, moving into the eighth spot with a jump of 10.82 meters. She is also ranked 5th on the CCIW honor roll. Grace Robinson had another stellar win in the 400 with a lifetime PR of 1:00.82. She currently sits 5th on the CCIW honor roll."
 

Highlights

  • Teresa Topolski narrowly missed a PR in the 200, with a time of 28.23 seconds.
  • Sophomore Grace Robinson took first place in the 400-meter dash today, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 1:00.82, just outside of the top-10 best times in program history by four-tenths of a second.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Robinson, Julie Heinrichs, Sarah Kerfin, and Topolski took fourth-place with a time of 4:12.95, the best time of the 2022 indoor season for the Firebirds.
  • In the high jump, Pearl Moss tied for fifth place after clearing 1.51 meters.
  • Freshman Abbey Calhoun set a new PR in the triple jump today with an impressive mark of 10.82 meters, the eighth-best jump in program history.
  • Alexis Mattox began her huge day in the throws with a personal-best in the shot put of 12.88 meters, placing her fifth, and giving her the 10th-best throw in program history.
  • Mattox then returned in the weight throw and set yet another PR with a huge throw of 17.41 meters and took first place. The mark ranks Mattox sixth in school history, and ranks ninth acros NCAA Division III this season.
  • Hannah Lizano also set a PR and entered the top-10 in the weight throw on a mark of 17.14 meters, the 10th-best throw at Carthage, and places her 11th across NCAA Division III this season.
