Firebirds Set Numerous Personal-Bests at Aurora Grand Prix

CHICAGO — In an indoor meet loaded with some of the best talent the region has to offer, the Carthage women's track and field team posted multiple personal-best marks on Saturday at the Gately Indoor Track and Field. The Firebirds will return to Kenosha next weekend to host the Tadd Metzger Invitational on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.

"The women had multiple PR's today at a loaded meet filled with top talent from the Chicagoland area. Our team is young and we saw some very promising performances today. The sprints were led by sophomore Sarah Kerfin with two lifetime PRs in the 60 meter dash at 8.40 seconds and in the 200 at 27.44 seconds. The jumps squad was led by sophomore Pearl Moss by winning the high jump in 1.51 meters."
 
"The throws were led by freshman Mikayla Wright with a lifetime-best throw of 11.97 meters in the shot put and sixth-place finish. The distance squad was led by freshman Claire Guenther in her 3K debut with a fifth-place finish and outstanding time of 11:03.41. Senior Kerigann Ballard also ran a season best time in the 800 for a fourth place finish."
 

Highlights

  • For the second-straight meet, Sarah Kerfin set an indoor PR in the 200-meter dash, today finishing in 27.44 seconds.
  • Kerigann Ballard ran a season-best 2:30.22 in the 800 today, claiming fourth place.
  • Freshman Kylie Smith set a new PR in the mile by over 10 seconds, taking 10th place after crossing the finish line in 5:47.17.
  • Claire Guenther ran her first collegiate 3,000 today, crossing the finish line in 11:03.41 to take fifth place.
  • Pearl Moss cleared the bar at 1.51 meters in the high jump today to claim first place for the Firebirds.
  • Freshman Mikayla Wright continues to improve in the shot put this season, setting a new personal best today with a throw of 11.97 meters while taking sixth place.
  • Hannah Lizano continues to be a consistent scorer for the Firebirds in the weight throw this season, as she took fifth place today.
