Women’s Track and Field Takes Third at Firebird Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's track and field team took third place on Saturday at the Firebird Opener in the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center. In their second meet of the indoor season and second meet at home, Carthage scored 71 points, just behind Elmhurst at 79, and Carroll at 119.5 points.

"The team had a good start to the season today. It was a good way to compare ourselves to other schools in the conference. Every week we need to get better to reach our final goal."

 

Highlights

  • Amy Mayhill took fifth place in the 3,000 meter run, crushing her personal best by over 10 seconds with a time of 11:36.79.
  • Ally LaBerge set a new PR in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 11.10 seconds.
  • Kerigann Ballard scored major points for the Firebirds with a second-place finish in the 800 on a time of 2:32.20.
  • Alexis Mattox took second place in both the shot put and weight throw, posting a mark of 12.86 meters and setting a new PR in the shot while throwing 15.40 meters in the weight throw.
  • Mattox's toss of 12.86 meters in the shot put ties her for the 10th-best throw in program history, and would rank her 13th across NCAA DIII entering today.
