Women’s Tennis Wins First Dual Match of the Year Against North Park

KENOSHA, Wis. — Women's Tennis picked up their first win this afternoon against conference opponent North Park University. The Firebirds (1-0) hosted the Vikings (1-1) at Smeds Tennis Court here in Kenosha, where they would close the match 7-2 to begin their season on a positive note.

Rachel Anderson and Giovanni Mendes would kick off doubles play on court three, setting the pace for Carthage with an 8-1 victory. Giana Apostoli and Sam Ramsey would follow suit for the Firebirds, as they grabbed an 8-4 win on court one. Court two also went to the home team, as the duo of Luana Da Silva and Sasha Manojlovic closed out doubles action with an 8-5 dub.

Singles play began with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five as Sasha Manojlovic gained a win. On court four, Sierra Sonnemaker defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-4, while Giana Apostoli would pick up a 6-3, 6-2 win on court one. Luana Da Silva joined in on the winning streak by winning a balanced 6-4, 6-4 on the second court. North Park would win the remaining two courts of the day.

Next Wednesday, September 15, the Firebirds host Carroll University for their second CCIW dual match of the year. The event will again be held outside at Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
