WHEATON, Ill. — The Carthage women's tennis team faced their first loss of the season this Tuesday as they travelled to Illinois to take on conference opponent Wheaton. The Firebirds (3-1) lost 6-3 to the Thunder (5-1) in what was their first away match of the year.

Doubles play began with the first two courts falling to Wheaton, before Giovanna Mendes and Rachel Anderson picked up an 8-6 win on court number three.

Mendes also grabbed Carthage's first win in singles with her 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 tiebreaking match on court five. The match would conclude with Giana Apostoli's 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 victory on court number one.

The Firebirds host Elmhurst University next Tuesday, October 5th for what will be their fifth conference dual match of the season.
