Men’s Tennis Sweeps First Two Dual Matches of the Year

KENOSHA, Wis. — Men's tennis made a statement this Sunday by sweeping their first dual matches of the season against both St. Francis and MSOE without giving up a single court or set to the visiting teams throughout the entire day.

Match 1 - Carthage vs. St. Francis - 11:00 A.M.

The Firebirds started off strong on the day by defeating St. Francis 9-0 without dropping a single set for the match. Nicolas Welker and Tripp Schulte paired up on court three to grab the first doubles win of the day 8-2. Myles Krzewinski and Cooper Ferruzzi followed on court two with an 8-3 dub of their own, before Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amadike claimed the last remaining court 8-4.

Nicolas Welker kicked off singles action 6-3, 3-0 to win court three, before his doubles partner Tripp Schulte stole court five 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Nick Marino won court six 6-4, 6-1 and Daniel Moore followed 6-1, 6-3 on court no. 1. Yanozie Amadike cleared his opponent with consistent 6-4, 6-4 sets on court four before Myles Krzewinski closed out the dual match with his 6-2, 6-4 dub.

Match 2 - Carthage vs Milwaukee School of Engineering - 3:00 P.M.

The second match of the day saw Carthage take on MSOE, where they once again dominated their opponent 9-0 without surrendering a single set. Nicolas Welker and Tripp Schulte paired up again to start doubles play, this time grabbing a commanding 8-0 victory on court no. 2. Daniel Moore and Yanozie Amadike followed behind on court one with another 8-0 sweep, before Nick Marino and Hayden Friese wrapped up the remaining court with an 8-4 dub.

Hayden Friese opened on singles no. 5 with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over his opponent, before Timmy Lowe followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win on court six. Chris Mitev won 6-2, 6-2 on court no. 4, while Myles Krzewinski followed 6-1, 6-1 on court one. Nick Marino claimed court three 7-5, 6-0 before Cooper Ferruzzi ended the match 6-3, 6-4.

The Firebirds are now 2-0 on the year as they head to St. Peter, Minn. next Friday, October 1st to compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament.
