JANESVILLE, Wis. — After beginning the day in first place, the Carthage women's golf team shot an impressive 308 (+20) this Saturday afternoon to finish in first place at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Fall Invitational. The Firebirds scorecard combined for a two-day total 635 (+59) to finish 17 strokes ahead of Aurora University in second place, despite beginning the day with only a two-stroke advantage. Carthage's 'B' scorecard tied for 6th place with Judson University after their 36-hole score of 685 (+109).

Madi McCoy led the way for the Firebirds with her third-place tie, carding a two-round score of 155 (+11). Adrienne Rohwedder tied for 7th place with her total of 160 (+16), while her sister Symantha Rohwedder placed 12th while shooting 162 (+18) for the event. Kate Munro chipped in for Carthage with 164 (+20) to grab a 14th-place tie, while Lorelei Oomens followed just one stroke behind in 16th place to close out the Firebird 'A' scorecard. Alina Brindza led Carthage's 'B' scorecard with a 10th-place tie while carding 161 (+17), while Natalie Hoege totaled 166 (+22) for the tourney.

"We struggled a bit in the first round yesterday," said head coach Brandy Johnston. "It was incredibly windy so higher scores were to be expected, but we let it get away from us a little more than we should have. I was really proud of our comeback today. We had some great rounds out there and it should give us a good confidence boost heading into the conference championship next week!"

Next up on the Firebirds's schedule is the CCIW Women's Golf Championships, which begin this Thursday, September 30th at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
