KENOSHA, Wis. — Women's tennis continues to shine, remaining 3-0 on the year in dual matches as they topple conference opponent Augustana College 5-4 this Saturday afternoon. With the match tied 4-4 heading into the last singles court of the evening, junior Sierra Sonnemaker would clinch a 6-4, 7-6 (4) tie-breaking win to give the Firebirds the advantage over the Vikings.

In doubles play, Carthage would pick up just one win on court no. 1, as Giana Apostoli and Sam Ramsey gained a much needed 8-5 dub over the visiting team.

Down 1-2 heading into singles play, Maddie Kearney delivered for the Firebirds on court six, winning 6-0, 6-2 to even out the match at 2-2. Court no. 3 would fall to Augie, before Giana Apostoli picked up a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory back on court one. Another court fell to the visiting team before Sasha Manojlovic again evened out the score with a dominating 6-4, 6-2 win on court five. With the match evened out at 4-4, all eyes were focused on court no. 4, where junior Sierra Sonnemaker would look to sway the match in the Firebird's favor. After winning her first set 6-4, Sonnemaker and her opponent would find themselves tied in the second set 6-6. Sonnemaker would ultimately push past her opponent, winning the match 6-4, 7-6 (4) to give Carthage the advantage over the Vikings.

Next on the schedule for the Firebirds is the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament, which will be played over the course of three days next weekend, beginning on Friday, September 24th.
Carthage also has a JV match against College of Lake County scheduled for this Wednesday, September 22nd which will be held at Smeds Tennis Center here in Kenosha, Wis.
