HANOVER PARK, Ill. — Women's tennis fell 5 - 4 against the Augustana Vikings in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament this Thursday afternoon.

The match began on court three as Giovanna Mendes and Rachel Anderson picked up an 8 - 4 win for the Firebirds. The remaining two courts would fall to the opposing team heading into singles action.

Carthage would open singles with a win on court six as Maddie Kearney closed out her match with an even 6-1, 6-1. Court no. 5 would also lean in the Firebird's favor as Giovanna Mendes grabbed a point with her 6-0, 6-2 win. Carthage's final point of the day would come from court no. 1 as Giana Apostoli won 6-2, 6-1 over her Augustana opponent.
