Box Score ALMA, Mich. — The Carthage College men's lacrosse team would pick up their second victory of the 2020 season, defeating Alma College on the road 14-13 at Bahlke Field on Saturday.

Neither team was able to score early in the first quarter, with the Scots (1-1) netting the first goal just over seven minutes into the game. Moments later, Brad Dodds would tie the game up with a score for the Red Men (2-0), before William Clemens gave them the lead with five minutes left in the period. However, the home team would draw the match even at two before the end of the quarter.

The two teams would trade scores as Colin Poitras scored his first of the game with 10:23 left in the first half. Carthage's leading scorer through two games, Noah Lindner would net four-straight to close out the period, with Alma netting three, giving the Red Men a 7-6 advantage at halftime.

It was a back-and-forth third quarter that saw four ties, beginning with a goal from the Scots that set the score at seven-all. Goals by Robert Dakan and Poitras were met with responses from the home team that evened the score at nine with just over five minutes left in the third period. Freshman Ryan Foley would sneak one past the keeper after a flurry of shots for the Red Men before Alma tied it once more, with a slashing call giving Carthage a man-up opportunity to end the quarter as Clemens took advantage to make it 11-10.

Poitras, Lindner, and Dodds would score three unanswered goals for the Red Men to make it 14-10 midway through the period. However, the home team would make it close, scoring with just under one minute remaining to make it 14-13, before Carthage held on for the victory.

The Red Men will be back in action next weekend for their home opener at Art Keller Field, when they host DePauw at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22.

Head Coach David Neff

"Coach Nycz had his players ready, and Alma really took it to us. They had the better offensive game plan today and caught us by surprise, which set the tone for the entire afternoon. We also ran into a team with a lot of really good seniors, in some aspects, we were outmatches today. However, I am proud of our guys, they found a way to win this one and in addition to playing a tough opponent, we overcame the long bus ride and some brutal weather conditions. There is a lot to learn from this one and we will need to get better for our home opener next Saturday. Each week we get a clearer picture of where the pieces fit together."
