Red Men Secure Sixth Place at CCIW Outdoor Championship

KENOSHA, WIS.—Day two of the 2019 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Track & Field Championship was upon the Red Men in a rare meet at Art Keller Field on Saturday. Carthage capped the meet with a sixth-place score of 69 points, while North Central College (Ill.) claimed the 2019 CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 250 points.
 
Christian Zenon (Millikin) was named CCIW Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet, while Leif Van Grinsven (Wheaton) pulled down CCIW Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet. North Central College (Ill.) claimed CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Aaron Austin highlighted the Red Men field athletes on Saturday as he notched the CCIW Outdoor Shot Put Championship with a toss of 15.08m. Caleb Hays gave Carthage three points with his sixth-place mark of 14.44m in the shot put, followed by Nate Meador's 14.19m that put him in eighth place and generated one point. Isaiah Brown kept the one-point trend alive with a 13.06m in the triple jump, good enough for eighth place.
 
The 4x400 meter relay squad of Dante Graham, Hugo Flores, Quade Kayle and Michael Schantek mustered a third-place time of 3:21.17. The quartet's time gave Carthage six points.
 
Camren Howard's 3:57.02 in the 1500 meter run put him in fourth place, and resulted in five points. Howard followed that with a 1:56.24 in the 800 meter run, good enough for seventh place and two points.
 
Connor Bell's 5534 points in the decathlon put him in fifth place and gave the Red Men four team points. Freshman phenom Jared Humphrey qualified for the 400 meter hurdle finals with an eighth-place mark of 57.25 in the prelims, which occurred before his finals time of 58.07 that put him in seventh place and netted the Red Men two points. 
 
The Red Men will compete in last chance meets over the coming weeks with hopes to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
