CCIW RELEASE
NAPERVILLE, ILL.—Carthage College junior pitcher
Stefanie Guercio landed College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. This marks Guercio's second career weekly honor after she claimed it on March 13, 2018 last season. Carly Wilson (Augustana) landed CCIW Hitter of the Week today.
The Park Ridge, Illinois native made three appearances on the rubber for the Lady Reds last week, where they kicked-off 2019 with a 2-2 record. Guercio accumulated 36 strikeouts and a 1.34 earned run average over 15 2/3 innings pitched, where she walked just four batters. She registered a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 decision over Trine University on March 3, where she tallied 16 strikeouts and allowed just two hits over seven innings. Her 16 strikeouts was one shy of a Lady Reds single-game record.
Guercio followed that with a 2 2/3-inning save in a 6-3 win over Wartburg on March 3, where she notched seven strikeouts to finish her birthday with a total of 23. She added 13 strikeouts in a complete-game 3-1 loss against Concordia Moorhead on March 4.
Guercio and the Lady Reds will return to action on Wednesday, March 6 against Penn State Brandywine (11:15 a.m. ET) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1:30 p.m. ET) at the Osceola Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
